BSN City Group chair wins equality leadership award

BSN City Group chair, Paulette Mastin, has been recognised for her work on improving diversity both within the firm where she practices, Linklaters LLP, and externally after winning the Champion and Executive Sponsor award on 6 October at the 2015 Race for Opportunity 20th Anniversary Awards Gala Dinner. Race for Opportunity (RfO) is the race equality campaign from Business in the Community.  The award is designed to honour one or more individuals, demonstrating significant leadership within the workplace, in order to progress the race equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.

Paulette won the award for her role in establishing BSN City Group in 2008, a group which now has in excess of 300 members.  She also co-chairs Linklaters’ BAME Network and its Diversity Action Team (DAT) which encourages and influences the recruitment of BAME candidates to the firm.  Through Paulette’s leadership and participation in the DAT, the firm has seen a significant increase of African-Caribbean graduates being recruited.

Paulette Mastin said: “I’m really delighted to have been recognised in this way.  Underpinning this recognition is the shared passion and commitment of fellow BSN City Group committee members to raising the profile of black lawyers in the City.  This award is both inspiring and motivating as we continue our mission to increase the ethnic diversity footprint in the legal profession.”
