Hosted by Linklaters’ BAME* Network in association with the Black Solicitors Network (City Branch).

October is Black History Month. To mark the occasion, Linklaters and the Black Solicitors Network (City Branch) are delighted to invite you to an evening event entitled ‘Inspired to Succeed: Top of Their Game’.

Guest speakers:

Meera Syal CBE (panellist)
Meera Syal is the star of Beautiful People and The Kumars at No 42. She made her name on the sketch show Goodness Gracious Me, and as author of Anita & Me and Life Isn’t All Ha Ha Hee Hee. As well as appearing in feature films like Sammy and Rosie Get Laid, Meera wrote the screenplay for the critically acclaimed Bhaji on the Beach and My Sister Wife, in which she also starred. TV credits include Doctor Who, Holby City, Absolutely Fabulous and Drop the Dead Donkey. She also collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber in the West End production of Bombay Dreams.

Nicolas Hamilton (panellist)
Nic Hamilton is a rising star of the British motorsport scene. An achievement in any context, but even more so for someone told as a child he would never walk. Born with a form of cerebral palsy which affects the movement of his leg muscles, he endured years of gruelling, painful training so that by the age of 17 he could walk completely unaided. Not one to be told what he can and can’t do on the basis of his condition, Nic won a seat in the competitive Renault Clio Cup, the entry level to touring car competition. After a high-profile first season (partly due to his disability, partly due to his brother being Lewis Hamilton) Nic moved to the European Touring Car Cup.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy
Broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy is the award-winning anchor of Channel 4 News. Originally at the BBC, Krishnan worked on a variety of programmes from Newsnight to Newsround. For Channel 4, Krishnan has presented The Autopsy, the first public post-mortem to be broadcast live. He has also hosted various debates, including one about the impact of reality television and another on human genetics.
