Inspired to Succeed – Black History Month

October is Black History Month. To mark the occasion, the Black Solicitors Network (City Branch) and Linklaters’ BAME Network are delighted to invite you to an evening event entitled Inspired to Succeed: Remembering the past.

Guest speakers:

David Olusoga

David Olusoga is a British-Nigerian historian, broadcaster and film-maker. His most recent TV series include Black and British: A Forgotten History, The World’s War, A House Through Time and the BAFTA winning Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners. David is also the author of Black & British: A Forgotten History which was awarded both the Longman-History Today Trustees Award and the PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize. David was also a contributor to the Oxford Companion to Black British History and writes for The Guardian and is a columnist for The Observer and BBC History Magazine. He is also one of the three presenters on the BBC’s landmark Arts series Civilizations.

Afua Hirsch

Afua Hirsch is an award winning author, broadcaster, and journalist. A former TV correspondent, war reporter, barrister and international development worker, she has formed her unique perspective on cultural intelligence and current affairs from two decades working in a wide range of sectors in British society and across the world. Afua’s first book Brit(ish) explores identity, race, heritage and Britishness. Written as narrative non-fiction, Brit(ish) explores Afua’s life-long interest in identity and Britain’s struggles to face up to its past and accommodate its multi-cultural future, issues which have recently come to the fore of British politics and raised profound questions about its place in the world.
