The Law Society: Annual EMLD Lecture

July 26, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

The Ethnic Minority Lawyers Division (EMLD) of The Law Society is hosting its annual lecture with a prestigious figure.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the public inquiry into the Stephen Lawrence murder, the EMLD are delighted that this year’s guest speaker is Imran Khan QC. Imran will reflect on what improvements have taken place in terms of institutional racism and the protection of civil liberties and human rights.

Imran Khan QC is a solicitor chiefly known for his representation of the family of Stephen Lawrence family. The case became a cause célèbre; its fallout included cultural changes of attitudes on racism and the police, and to the law and police practice. It also led to the partial revocation of the rule against double jeopardy. Looking through 2018 lens, Khan will reflect on what if any improvements have taken place to reduce institutional racism and the erosion of civil liberties.By attending the lecture you will have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion in the Q&A session. Following the formal session, there will be an opportunity for attendees to network, and develop and build new professional relationships.
