Response of the Black Solicitors Network
Black Solicitors Network (BSN) was established in 1995 and is a Recognised Special Interest Group of the Law Society of England & Wales. It is the primary voice of black solicitors in England and Wales. BSN is a national organisation with a membership of more than 6500. BSN represents solicitors, registered European lawyers, trainee solicitors and student members of the Law Society and other categories regulated by the Law Society who are either from an African or Caribbean descent or who wish to promote the aims and objectives of the BSN irrespective of their race, religion, colour or creed. Solicitor members range from Legal Executives, Sole Practitioners, to partners in large City commercial firms. Members are drawn from all areas of legal specialism and include local authority solicitors, solicitors in commerce and industry, government legal departments, the voluntary sector, Crown Prosecution Service and the Judiciary.
GENERALLY
BSN has taken part in focus groups, consultations and submitted a response prior to the Constitutional Reform Act. Since then BSN has worked closely with the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC), the Law Society and other bodies addressing diversity in the profession and judiciary. We have organised a number of out reach events with the JAC, arranged training for aspiring.......
